JPG, PNG or WebP: which should you choose?
Choose the format for the image and the destination—not just the smallest number.
JPG for photographs
JPG is widely accepted and usually works well for photographs. It does not support transparency: transparent regions need a background color. Repeated re-encoding can reduce quality, so keep your original.
PNG for transparency and sharp graphics
PNG supports transparency and lossless image encoding. It is often useful for logos, screenshots and flat graphics. A photograph saved as PNG can be much larger than a comparable JPG.
WebP for modern web use
WebP supports transparency and compact lossy encoding. Check that the site receiving your file accepts it. Browser export support is checked by PixelDock; an unsupported export is reported as an error.
Important conversion limits
PixelDock exports still images. Animated inputs become a single frame. Original embedded metadata is not retained. Color appearance can vary across browsers and color-managed applications. HEIC and RAW are not supported by this release.
